This year the top votegetter for the 2017 Outstanding Pitcher Award was Nunk the Basher of the Hobbiton Howlers, who finished up with an outstanding 14-6 mark and an impressive 3.20 ERA.
In his award-winning season, the 20-year-old Howlers star hurled 171.1 innings, chalking up 113 strikeouts and 49 walks, limiting hitters to a .245 batting average.
The SBWA will present his award to the Basher at the group's annual awards dinner this weekend.

| Tuesday, August 1st, 2017: Hobbiton's Elvadrielad Top Pitcher in July
The Frodo League scribes have selected July's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to Celeadoc Elvadrielad of Hobbiton. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 5-1 record.
The Howlers star performer made 6 starts with a 2.36 ERA and surrendered 30 hits in 42 innings. He struck out 34 and walked 8.
So far this season Elvadrielad has 12 wins and 5 losses and a 3.16 ERA.

| Friday, July 28th, 2017: 6-Hit Barrage by Slayden
Rabid Slayden told the press after his 6-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Slayden of the Hobbiton Howlers did against the Belfalas Bounty. He went to the plate 6 times and 6 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Bounty, who suffered a 15-4 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
R. Slayden singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off M. Land in the 8th.
So far this season Slayden has hit .306 with 9 home runs, 51 RBIs and and scored 57 times.
